Driving lessons?

I would like to see every learner driver be made to have at least 6 lessons from a professional instructor before taking a test, and if they fail another 6 before the next test. Would that improve the general standard of driving and help to eliminate the passing on of other driver’s bad habits?
I think ALL lessons should be left to those qualified to do so..A good driver is not always a good teacher.
Why do you think we have so many bad drivers on the road
It might help but I passed my test after 5 lessons.
What would help is to have a more rigid test starting with a theory followed by a simulator then a basic road test. Far more extensive than it is now which only requires a very basic knowledge of driving to pass.
It would also help weed out bad drivers if tests had to be retaken every 5 or 10 years and the authorities clamped down on bad driving such as being over-cautious, under-cautious, lane discipline etc. Unfortunatley the government, if they were to do this, would use it as a money making scheme rather than running it at cost in the interests of safety.
I don’t think so. It may, perhaps, eliminate/discourage some of it but overall…people are just going to do what they want to do eventually. They do what needs to be done to get the end result (license) and then could care less about following the rules afterwards. Folks forget that driving is a privilege, not a right!!

I’ve worked in a car shop since i was like 14.. n ive known how to drive ((illegally)) ever since – sitting my test soon – at least u can trust me lol
I didn’t get my license till I was 20 and I went to driver’s ed. I DEFINITELY learned from it. Here in MA, if you are under 18, you can’t get your license without going to driver’s ed. Even then, I know some pretty dumb kids out there driving around. They might be better prepared with the classroom hours and on-road hours. I know it helped me!
The test itself should be able to eliminate the passing on of bad habits through being taught by a friend or relative instead of an instructor.
The problem lies in what people learn AFTER they have passed their test. Bad habits develop when new drivers start driving on their own.
i dont agree, you could be a perfect driver at the point of passing your test, i think the problem comes when people have years of experience. they have learnt all the short cuts and bad habits and had no one to remind them the correct and safe way to do it. plus in my opinion the problem isn’t skill, its attitude…. too many people just dont care if they cut you up or drive on their mobile, they just dont care less…… until it happens to them of course
18 or over!!! Ban All drivers ed classes in high school! Teenagers should not be allowed to drive, unless they are over 18. If not, then put them to trial as an adult if they hurt anyone.
Perhaps people should take a further test after, say, 3 years (from the first pass), then one every – 10? – years?
I hate bad Drivers…GET OFF THE ROAD!!!
