i had about 30 hours and found that to be too much.

It depends on the person really.

I had about 40 hours with my instructor plus lots more hours with my dad. I just couldnt seem to get the hang of it. But it doesnt matter because I got there in the end and I’m sure you will too! Good luck!

around 40 lessons/hours is the average i think, but it differs from person to person.

  4. oscar says:

about 1,1/2 hours per year of your age

    people learn at different rates

i turned 17 in 2000 and started to learn how to drive with my parents 3 days after i turned 17 (had to wait for them to be free)

i took a 2 hour lesson once a week but had plenty of driving in between with my mum as we had a job delivering a charity magazine that was like readers digest called candis

i passed my practical in june 2001 i imagine i had over 80 hours of driving in between my first driving experience to passing

passing your test with less hours is not a sign of a good driver and you learn more when you drive after you passed your test, i have now been driving for nearly 8 years and can say i am more aware of the roads than i was when i was 17, 18 or even 20

take your time and don’t worry about mistakes we all make them and on your test just remember that control and obervation is key so stalling the car (so long as its not excessive) is not an instant fail, kerbing (driving the car up on the kerb on a manouvere) is a fail and not looking in your mirrors enough can be a fail

hope this helps and good luck in your test, your instructor will tell when you are ready

email me if you want more advice

I’ve had LOADS, I’ve lost count of how many but I keep making stupid mistakes and ballsing it up, apart from that I’m OK.

Everyone’s different though, some people can be ready at about 10 hours or less.

what you should do is tell your driving instructor that you want to book your test, and just go for it.there is no set amount of driving lessons you will just pass when your ready.you just dont want to be wasting your money if you are ready now but your driving instructor hasnt told you are ready now,coz the more lessons you take the more money he gets, thats how i see it anyway. good luck,i hope iv helped.

I had 9 one hour lessons and no other practice but had been on motorbikes for 4 years up to then.

  9. Jennywren says:

It is said that you need 1 lesson for each year of your age!

    You will get there!

    Good Luck!

According to the Driving Standards Agency, the average number of hours professional tuition it takes to pass the UK driving test is 45 – plus 22 hours private practice.

Note – this figure is not a recommendation, it is the actual number of hours it takes on average. This means many take less, sometimes much less, and many take more, sometimes much more.

Don’t compare yourself to others – everyone’s different. Very few driving instructors deliberately extend the number of lessons you take just so they can earn more money – if you have a good instructor he’ll have more than enough pupils to keep him going, without you! So, rely on him/her to tell you when you’re ready.

I had about 28 hours worth of driving lessons.

I started in February 2003 (my 17th birthday) and passed in July 2003.

It all depends on the individual (and sometimes the instructor!).

There’s no such thing as an average time to learnt drive.
57 hours seems a very long time to me.

  13. Scouse says:

One to one and half for each year of your age plus experience with a friend who has a full licence
